Broken Promises

-- January 24, 2011

The top headline on politics promises a lot and delivers little. This is the story about president's address tomorrow night; the online edition says, "Republicans Draw Line on Spending." This theme is ever present and has been for years. No doubt millions of words have repeated it over and over again. And here we are again, but what do we have? Nothing. "Republicans are themselves divided over how much of the budget they can realistically slash," the article says. What would they cut? Silence. The article makes a claim that "every realm of government" could be cut, but doesn't name one. How many of these articles do I have to read before I come to the conclusion that reporters are never going to make anyone answer this question?
